BRINGING COLOR & CREATIVITY

TO EACH PROJECT

Heidi Hansen

Founder

Heidi Hansen has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember. After studying art at the University of Montana, she discovered her true calling in an unexpected place, her daughter’s nursery. What began as a simple mural for her child became the spark for Moonaria Murals, a business built on transforming blank walls into meaningful works of art.

The name Moonaria itself tells a story. It blends Heidi’s maiden name, Mooney, with “Aria,” a word meaning “melody” or “part of a song.” It’s a tribute to her late mother-in-law, Melodye, and reflects Heidi’s twin passions: art and music, both inseparable threads in her creative life.

What sets Moonaria apart is Heidi’s deeply personal approach. She doesn’t just paint walls, she builds relationships. Through a collaborative discovery process, Heidi takes the time to understand what matters most to her clients, incorporating their passions and stories into custom designs. With multiple meetings and careful refinement, she ensures every mural feels uniquely theirs.

Heidi thrives on the challenges murals present. The excitement of transforming a massive blank space, working with different surfaces from brick to drywall, and adapting to indoor and outdoor environments. The hardest part? Walking away when a project is complete. She becomes deeply invested in every piece, which is exactly what her clients love about working with her.

OUR WORK

OUR PROCESS

Discovery Process
Step 1
"Shoot for the Moon"

This will look different for each project, but the overall goal is the same: learning about you and getting an idea of what our collaboration will look like.

Mockups
Step 2
"Moonstruck"

We’ll create a few examples of what your space can look like, discuss with you and make changes if necessary, and go from there.

Prepping the Space
Step 3
"New Moon"

Each surface needs to be clean, dry, and ready to accept paint before work can begin. This step will vary depending on the location of the new artwork - exterior vs. interior, brick vs. drywall, for example.

Initial Drawing
Step 4
"Moon Landing"

On-site, the process starts by drawing out the mural based on the approved mockup from step 2. This step allows for correction if needed, without the need to re-paint anything.

Painting
Step 5
"Goodnight Moon"

Now the fun begins! The painting process can vary quite a bit in how long it takes. The most difficult part of the process is the ending. It's hard to step away and say “It’s done.”
